The Curse will keep you monkeying around for a long time
In the game, GuyBrush must save his one true love from being turned into the pirate's zombie bride. Unfortunately in his quest to save Elaine, Guybrush stumbles across a curse that turns her into a gold statue.
The game features beautiful high resolution cartoon graphics, with film-quality animation. Once again LucasArts had raised the bar in terms of presentation.
Like the original Monkey games, The Curse is a hilarious adventure. There are sight gags galore and hundreds of jokes to keep you smiling, even when you are pulling your hair out stuck on a tough puzzle.
In his adventures, Guybrush encounters plenty of bizarre and rib-tickling scenarios. Just some of the wacky episodes see Guybrush impersonating a chicken, catching lice, playing a banjo, caber tossing, and being vomited out from a snake.
The game is broken up into manageable sub-quests. One of Guybrush's first tasks is to find a map, a ship and a crew to travel to Blood Island to try to remove the Curse.
There's a lengthy challenge on offer, with some very taxing puzzles. Even experienced puzzlers should find the game offers over 50 hours of play. Fortunately, there are plenty of hints to keep you going, and plenty to keep you smiling.
To add variety, there are action sections including the opportunity to control a pirate ship and blast your enemies out of the water. You'll also once again get the chance to engage in sword-fights that require sharp wit rather than a sharp blade.
The Curse will keep you monkeying around for a long time. It's hilarious fun and one of the best old adventure games.
